Monochrome conversion can't recover hidden color information. A true image with very low contrast can turn into a flat document when color is removed.

The server removes chrominance with Pillow’s grayscale conversion and rebuilds a monochrome image. If your upload has transparency (RGBA/LA or a transparent palette), that alpha channel is preserved in the result.
Usually no. ImageToolkit keeps your upload’s format when it can save that type; otherwise it falls back to PNG. The download is named with a _grayscale suffix.
No. Unlike blur or filters, grayscale has no browser preview — Convert sends the file to the server and returns the finished monochrome download.
No. Color channels are discarded in the conversion. Keep your original file if you might need the full-color version later.
